Researchers have detected mysterious radio waves emanating 30 degrees below the surface of ice in Antarctica. According to them, the unexplained waves had to pass through thousands of kilometres of rock before being detected, defying current understanding of particle physics. The researchers were attempting to gain insight into distant cosmic events by analysing signals that reach the Earth.
