A North Korean soldier defected to South Korea on Sunday by crossing the heavily fortified Demilitarized Zone (DMZ), according to South Korea's military. The soldier crossed the central section of the land border and was taken into custody after expressing a desire to resettle in the South. This is the first such defection since August last year.
