A new study suggested that naked mole-rat colonies are complex than thought, with workers performing distinct roles. Some are specialised 'toilet cleaners' or 'garbage collectors', while others stay mostly in the nest. Breeding animals stick together, and roles may shift with age. The findings revealed hidden social organisation and behavioural diversity in the eusocial mammals.
