NASA has explained how it repaired JunoCam, which had suffered radiation damage while orbiting Jupiter and was producing poor images in December 2023. The engineers applied an experimental technique called annealing, in which the camera was heated at 25°C to repair the microscopic defects. This successfully restored JunoCam, enabling it to capture detailed images.
