NASA's Perseverance rover has recorded the first evidence of electrical activity in Mars's thin atmosphere. Using its SuperCam instrument, the rover detected "mini-lightning" associated with whirlwinds called dust devils that regularly saunter over the planet's surface. The rover picked up these electrical discharges from Jezero Crater in audio and electromagnetic recordings.
