An 8.8-magnitude quake off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula in July generated a Pacific-wide tsunami. NASA's Guardian system tracked atmospheric ripples and issued alerts 30-40 minutes before waves hit Hawaii and other coasts, providing authorities with extra time to assess and respond to the threat. Developer Camille Martire said the system "functioned to its full extent".
