Researchers at Japan's Kyushu University have identified a natural compound, 2Z-decaprenol, in Manchurian walnut leaves that stops other plants from growing. They replicated how walnut leaves decompose in soil and found that 2Z-decaprenol was the most effective in blocking tobacco seedling growth. The discovery could lead to eco-friendly alternatives to chemical weed killers.
