India's employment surged to 64.33 crore in 2023-24 from 47.5 crore in 2017-18, adding 16.83 crore jobs and reducing unemployment from 6.0% to 3.2%. As per the Labour Ministry, Labour participation and workforce ratios improved significantly, with rising self-employment and declining casual labour. The tertiary sector led urban job creation, while 1.56 crore women entered the formal workforce.
