As per the makers, 'Homebound' is inspired by a true story. Reportedly, the makers paid only ₹10,000 to the family on whom the film is based. However, director Neeraj Ghaywan took to X (formerly Twitter) and clarified, "I want to clarify that this sum was a small token I personally gave to Ram Charan ji (Amrit’s father) many years ago during my initial research."
