Scientists simulated neutron star mergers to find that neutrinos shift between different "flavours" (electron, muon and tau) and impact shape of merger remnant and the resulting emissions. They also influence type and quantities of elements created during the merger. The amount of gold and platinum formed during neutron star mergers is affected by neutrino flavour changes.
