Marine scientists have developed a new eDNA technique to detect rare hammerhead sharks by analysing traces of DNA in seawater. The method targets critically endangered species like scalloped bonnethead, scoophead and Pacific bonnethead sharks from Mexico to Peru. The technique enabled researchers to locate populations in areas once thought empty, offering fresh hope for conservation efforts.
