A Mediterranean moth has been confirmed as a new species through DNA testing. Named Carcina ingridmariae, it has vivid colours and was long assumed to belong to a known species. It went unrecognised for decades because it bears a close resemblance to the European oak carcina. But, subsequent analysis of the insects' sexual organs confirmed it as a separate species.
