A new trapdoor spider species was discovered hidden in California's coastal dunes. Belonging to the genus Aptostichus, it was found during surveys of fragile dune habitats. Though physically similar to known species, it was found to be genetically unique during analysis. Like other trapdoor spiders, it builds silk-lined burrows with camouflaged doors, revealing unseen biodiversity beneath sand.
