New Zealand has introduced two new skilled migrant residency pathways from 2026 to address workforce shortages. The Skilled Work Experience Pathway requires five years' relevant experience and higher wages. The Trades and Technician Pathway targets skilled tradespeople with specific qualifications. The number of New Zealand citizens leaving the country has hit highest levels in 13 years.
