To reduce road accidents, state-run NHAI has identified 1,083 high fatality zones (HFZs). These have been identified on 77 national highways across the country. A special road engineering mitigation measures program has been initiated by NHAI, and work will be undertaken on 6,948 critical spots on the identified HFZs.
