The Supreme Court held that complete absence of motive is a circumstance which weighs in favour of an accused in a case based on circumstantial evidence. The Court acquitted the Appellant of the offence punishable under Section 302 of the IPC and Sections 5 and 25(1)(a) of the Arms Act, but sustained his conviction under Section 201 of the IPC.
