The Finance Ministry told the Delhi High Court that it won’t introduce a ₹50 coin as the public prefers lighter banknotes over heavier ₹10 and ₹20 coins. Citing an RBI survey, it said, "The public currently shows a preference for banknotes over coins." The statement came in response to a petition seeking tactile ₹50 coins for the visually impaired.
