Not every fingerprint is unique, finds AI-based study

A Columbia University-led study has challenged long-held belief that each fingerprint on a person's hand is unique. The team trained an AI tool to examine 60,000 fingerprints in pairs, which sometimes belonged to same person (but from different fingers) and sometimes belonged to different people. The tool identified, with 75-90% accuracy, whether prints from different fingers came from one person.
