Japanese information technology firm NTT DATA signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NPCI International Payments Limited to enable acceptance of UPI for Indian tourists in Japan. They will jointly examine opportunities for UPI enablement in Japan, with the objective of assessing its potential for merchants and consumers. The move will eliminate need for cash or foreign card transactions.
