Researchers at Ohio State University have developed a centrifugal nuclear thermal rocket that could revolutionise human space travel. The design achieved a projected specific impulse of 1,800 seconds, twice that of earlier nuclear engines and nearly four times more efficient than chemical rockets. This breakthrough could cut a one-way Mars trip to six months, with round-trips lasting 420 days.
