Tsutomu Yamaguchi is the only person officially recognised by Japan to have survived both atomic bombings of World War II. He was in Hiroshima when the first bomb struck on August 6, 1945, and travelled to his home in Nagasaki, where the second bomb was dropped three days later. Yamaguchi passed away aged 93 due to cancer in 2010.
