Delhi lacks infrastructure to accommodate the estimated 8-10 lakh stray dogs. Only 20 dedicated sterilisation dog shelters, whose total capacity is unknown, are currently operational in Delhi, TimesNow reported, citing sources from the MCD. Meanwhile, animal rights activist and former Union Minister Maneka Gandhi estimated that relocating all stray dogs to shelters would cost ₹15,000 crore.
