BJP spokesperson Syed Zafar Islam said the Opposition nominated a candidate for the vice-presidential election only to obstruct the NDA's candidate from achieving a consensus. "The candidate and the Opposition both know that the nomination is merely symbolic," he said, adding that there's no competition. The NDA has 425 MPs, which is more than the majority needed to win.
