Recently, it has been observed that couples who separate often claim ownership of pets, especially dogs. However, currently, there is no law that addresses the custody or ownership of pets. As a result, the affected party must pursue civil action by filing a suit for declaration, requesting the court to recognize them as the owner, explained Advocate Deepak Somani.
