A study by scientists at China's Renmin Hospital of Wuhan University showed that Parkinson’s disease may start in kidneys, not just the brain. They detected abnormal buildup of a protein called alpha-synuclein in kidneys of Parkinson’s patients. Since this protein is linked to the disease's progression, its presence in the kidneys suggests Parkinson's might begin there and later affect brain.
