Law Commission examining simultaneous elections Bills told Joint Committee of Parliament that Parliament has authority to alter five-year term of Lok Sabha and state assemblies through an amendment, News18 reported. The term can be changed to meet larger national objectives, the panel said, adding synchronised elections, by altering/curtailing existing terms, would serve broader national good.
