Padmaja, the daughter-in-law of former District Congress Committee (DCC) treasurer NM Vijayan, who, along with his son, died by suicide in Kerala's Wayanad in 2024, has accused the Congress leadership of failing to honour their promises of financial aid. Padmaja herself attempted suicide on Saturday. Vijayan and his son had allegedly died over mounting debts while raising funds for Congress.
