An eyewitness of the train accident near Thane's Mumbra said a bag worn by a commuter on a passing train brushed against those hanging on the footboard of his train, causing people to fall. The eyewitness stated passengers in the compartment pulled emergency chain at least three times but failed to halt it. The accident claimed at least four lives.
