Sayam Securities filed petition before Bombay HC alleging shortfall of stamp duty payments by ArcelorMittal during its purchase of Essar Steel and Uttam Galva Group in 2018 and 2022, Moneycontrol reported. During the purchase, ArcelorMittal was assigned ₹6,264-crore bad debts from creditors of the two entities. This debt transfer triggered additional stamp duty of ₹313 crore, which remains unpaid.
