Argentina-based Kheiron Biotech has bred five of the world's first genetically edited horses, which were cloned from the prize-winning polo mare named Polo Pureza (or Polo Purity), designed to produce explosive speed. The company used CRISPR technology to reduce the expression of the gene which limits muscle growth. While appreciating cloning, some breeders have criticised gene editing.
