A small airplane from Guatemala engaged in fighting an outbreak of flesh-eating screwworm larvae crashed in southern Mexico. Two Guatemalan pilots and a Mexican agronomist engineer died in the incident. The screwworm is a larva of the Cochliomyia hominivorax fly that can invade the tissues of any warm-blooded animal, including humans. The aircraft came down while releasing sterile flies.
