After a stampede at TVK chief Vijay's rally in Karur killed 39 people, PM Narendra Modi announced ₹2 lakh for each family who have lost their loved ones and ₹50,000 to each person who is injured. "Unfortunate incident during political rally is deeply saddening," he said. Vijay also announced ₹20 lakh for the families of the deceased.
