Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated Indian-origin Irfaan Ali after he claimed a second five-year term as President of Guyana. "I look forward to further strengthening India-Guyana partnership anchored in strong and historical people-to-people ties," wrote PM Modi. Irfaan was born into a Muslim Indo-Guyanese family and his ancestors arrived from India as indentured labourers in 19th century.
