Researchers have found that people in poorer nations often pay more for essential medicines when accounting for local purchasing power. A study of about 550 drugs across 72 countries, published in The Journal of the American Medical Association Health Forum, showed that nominal prices are higher in rich nations, but actual costs are heavier for low- and middle-income countries.
