Protests erupted in UP's Etawah on Thursday after a dispute over the alleged caste-based tonsuring of a Bhagwat Katha preacher and his aide. Over 20 people were detained as the protestors pelted stones at police. Warning shots were fired to disperse the crowd. UP minister Jaiveer Singh accused SP chief Akhilesh Yadav of giving the tonsuring incident a "casteist spin".
