US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said that Russian President Vladimir Putin had planned to release "compromising material" on Hillary Clinton after the 2016 US Presidential elections. Gabbard stated Putin had the material before the elections, but didn't release it then. Putin wanted to "undermine faith in US democratic process" in 2016 elections, she added.
