The Railway Board has granted an 'in-principle' approval for merging Chennai's Mass Rapid Transit System (MRTS) with the Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) network. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw stated that the Indian Railways and the Tamil Nadu government have established key groundwork to move forward with signing a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the integration.
