Raja Raghuvanshi's brother Sachin apologised to Meghalaya government days after Minister Alexander Laloo Hek sought an apology from the families of Raja and Sonam for "tarnishing" state's image. "Because of one Sonam, the image of Meghalaya has been tarnished," Sachin said, adding, "The Meghalaya government cares for its tourists." Raja was allegedly killed by hitmen hired by his wife Sonam.
