A man in his 50s from northern NSW has succumbed to Australian bat lyssavirus, a rabies-like virus. NSW Health said, "There is no effective treatment." Keira Glasgow noted that 118 people needed assessment in 2024. She warned, "Don't touch bats; only trained, vaccinated handlers should do so."
