Scientists have documented the rare sliteye shark for the first time in the Great Chagos Bank, the world's largest coral atoll. The shark, named for its slit-like eyes, was captured on camera in deep seagrass habitats. Researchers recorded two individuals just 11 kilometres apart at 23 to 29 metres, highlighting hidden biodiversity in the Chagos Archipelago's Marine Protected Area.
