A rare stinkhorn mushroom, known for its bad odour and strange shape, has been spotted at Bengaluru IISc campus. Stinkhorn mushrooms belong to family Phallaceae, and they smell like rotting meat to attract flies that eat decayed flesh and help it to disperse its spores. The fungus produces a slimy spore mass, gleba, which sticks to insects, aiding its spread.
