Researchers in Georgia and South Carolina have formally recognised two new black bass species - Bartram’s bass and Altamaha bass. Once considered redeye bass, the species was confirmed through physical traits and genetic analysis. Found in Georgia and South Carolina rivers, the fish faces threats from habitat loss and hybridisation.
