Venkata Subbalaxmi, a retired botany professor from Andhra Pradesh, took up swimming after being challenged by her grandson at the age of 68. Now, at age 79, Subbalaxmi has won over 170 medals - not just in swimming, but also in javelin throw, discus throw, triple jump, long jump, and sprinting. She has represented India in over five international competitions.
