Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yvan Gil has termed US President Donald Trump's decision to double the reward for the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro to $50 million as "the most ridiculous smokescreen ever seen". Gil stated, "The dignity of our homeland is not for sale...we repudiate this crude political propaganda." The reward was increased to $25 million in January 2025.
