A new British study found that vaccinating pregnant women against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) reduced newborn hospitalisations for severe lung infections by 72%. The earlier in pregnancy the jab is given, the stronger the protection, the study noted. The vaccine was introduced across the UK in 2024. RSV, a common virus causing coughs and colds, can lead to severe bronchiolitis.
