Russian forces failed to gain full control of any major Ukrainian city during the summer offensive, Ukraine's armed forces said. Despite claims by Russia's chief of general staff Valery Gerasimov of capturing over 3,500 sq km and 149 villages, Ukraine dismissed these figures as grossly exaggerated. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is calling for "tougher" western sanctions on Russia.
