Japan's ruling Liberal Democratic Party has elected Sanae Takaichi as its new leader, positioning the 64-year-old to be Japan's first female Prime Minister. Takaichi, the only woman among the five LDP candidates, defeated 44-year-old Shinjiro Koizumi, who was aiming to become Japan's youngest modern-era leader. She has been a long-time admirer of Britain's first female PM Margaret Thatcher.
