The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) took suo motu cognisance of Dalit IPS officer Y Puran Kumar's suicide in Chandigarh. Notices were issued to the Chief Secretary of Chandigarh and the DGP of Chandigarh Police, seeking an action-taken report within seven days. The commission decided to launch a formal inquiry under Article 338 of the Constitution.
