Supreme Court on Monday confirmed a Delhi High Court decision upholding the conviction of activist Medha Patkar in a 24-year-old defamation case by Delhi L-G VK Saxena, but waived the penalty of ₹1 lakh imposed on her. Patkar had allegedly called Saxena a "coward" in 2000. She was sentenced to five-month jail term in 2024 but was released on probation.
