The Supreme Court has set aside the death sentence of S Dhasvanth, convicted in the rape and murder of six-year-old Hasini in Chennai, ruling that the prosecution had failed to prove the crime. Bench observed that the evidence was insufficient and the DNA test results were inconclusive. Citing benefit of doubt, the court acquitted Dhasvanth and ordered his immediate release.
